   Club news

County athletes will be saddened to hear of the death from cancer, of two Gloucester city athletes.

John James of Severn AC will be known to many of us through his attendance at nearly all of Severn AC's races and though his unique running style caused by a long standing knee injury.  John assisted at the races and typed the results for distribution. His calm friendly nature will be missed.

Steve McHale of Gloucester AC  was one of the top runners in the county in the 70s running 2hrs 19mins 14secs for the marathon and 64mins 37secs for the half.   That was a time when Gloucestershire had a very good crop of runners competing at a very high level so the fact that Steve won Midland titles amongst other achievements marks him out as a special athlete. Following his retirement as an athlete Steve went to represent Matson as a city councillor.

Steve's wife Mary thanks all those who supprted her at the funeral and who donated to the Sue Ryder charity.
